About Our Worship

We have a wide range of Sunday services so there is usually something during the day to appeal to everyone. Those who are not familiar with Church of England worship will probably find that one of the all-age services (Family Service or Nine Thirty Start) will be the easiest to follow. People who are used to modern Anglican worship will appreciate the Parish Eucharist, while those of more traditional taste will find they are catered for at the Prayer Book services.

There is no music at Sunday 8.00 am or at Midweek Communion.  The All-age and Family services are accompanied by our small band, and the organ is played at other services.  Return to top to page

All-Age

The Church is committed to enable all ages to learn from and worship with each other.

Children are welcome to enjoy our services in their own way, and nobody is disturbed if they make a noise or want to move around. Most parents with small children find that the whole experience is better if the children are free to explore – there are always plenty of adults around to ensure that they do not do anything that might cause an accident.

Family Services last about 45 minutes and often include a baptism. The music tends to be fairly modern with some traditional hymns as well. The teaching is usually fairly visual.

Nine Thirty Start (NTS) is a 30 minute service which includes all the main elements of Christian worship in a manageable way. There are no books to follow as all the words are projected on a screen. The music is a mixture of new and old with some children’s songs as well.  Return to top to page

Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

The church has always stood at the centre of the spiritual life of the community, and traditionally has a special role to play in the main transition points of life, especially birth, marriage and death.

Baptism is entry into the Christian community of faith, and so is more than a family celebration of a new life. Baptisms normally take place during the Family Service when the widest range of representatives of the child’s new family are present to welcome the new member. They are happy and exciting occasions. Normally children should be baptised in the church of the parish where they live or where their family worships, but it is possible to baptise others who have a connection with Westfield subject to the agreement of their own parish priest.

Marriage is subject to the law of the land, and there are legal restrictions on who can get married in a parish church. The Vicar is able to give you information about this.

Funerals. The church is available for the funeral of anyone who has a connection with the community of Westfield. Anyone who lives in the parish at the time of death is entitled to be buried in the churchyard, and those who have been part of the community in the past can be buried here at the discretion of the Vicar. There is a new Garden of Remembrance where ashes can be interred.  Return to top to page
